Hi, I’m Nasiera.
As an Aerospace Engineer, I’ve always loved airplanes and travelling. As a South African, food has always been at the center of my life. When I travel, I pick up flavor profiles and international culinary influences everywhere I go, and bring that into the new recipes I create.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, I made a bold move and left my engineering job to pursue a culinary career. My plan was to go to pastry school until I figured out how much it costs! So, I decided to apply to jobs at bakeries instead.
To my surprise, I was able to land a job as a pastry chef at my favorite fine dining restaurant in Atlanta – just based on my baking portfolio, without an official culinary degree. I learned so much in the restaurant and became a much better baker.
It was then that I started Fusion Bake Box, a company that created internationally-inspired DIY baking kits. The kits contained all the non-perishable ingredients needed to create unique recipes right at home, along with easy-to-follow instructions. I loved using global flavors to transform everyday bakes, and share the joy of baking by lowering the barrier to entry.
I’m still on a mission to make baking beautiful and delicious treats more accessible to home bakers. I started the blog, Flour & Fiction, to showcase more of the things I love – baking, reading, travel, bookclubbing, and drinking tea – and show that you don’t need a culinary degree to be a great baker!
